STRIPED CURTAINS

Striped curtains
Blowing in the breeze,
She stands at the sink…
In a pretty gingham dress,
With an apron
And perfect hair…

The TV mom we never had
But saw every Sunday night…
How many children watched
And felt their reality
Came up short?
Our not-quite-modern world
Created images and
Great expectations,
Impossible dreams…and
Now, some want it back…

An America that never was…
Crazy? Or is it just me?

Thank you, Suzanne. Think I was visualizing Donna Reed in Mayberry, but that’s ok. I’m sure anyone familiar with mid to late 50’s TV remembers the moms. Some now don’t seem to realize that what they remember about the “good old days” was TV fantasy.
