NOT A QUITTER, BUT…

How do you know
When it’s a lost cause?
Nobody loves a quitter…
But when you’ve
Worked to the bone
And it never improved
Does it make any sense
To continue…do
More of the same?
Honestly…it seems
A waste of time…
What do you get but
Frustration and pain
And likely just washing
Your life down the drain?

I’LL TAKE A MULLIGAN

Could I choose
A year from my life
It wouldn’t be this one…
It started bad enough
Never got better…
I honestly can’t recall
One that’s ever been worse
So I’ve decided…
I’ll take a Mulligan

LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER

Though I’ve been
To New Orleans
A couple times
I’ve never been
To Mardi Gras…
That would seem
Like something
For a “bucket list”…
But though I agree
With the philosophy
Laissez les bons temps rouler
I know there are other
And for me…better ways
To let the good times roll…
Perhaps some day I’ll go
But it’s still not on my list…
I can enjoy NOLA on any day
More than a city…it’s a state of mind

SOFT LANDINGS

Ready to take off
Hand on the burner
The blast of propane
Brings the balloon
To equilibrium…
Weighing off…just
A precaution to avoid
False lift and be sure
The balloon will climb
Once it leaves the ground
Control of height is
All he has…the direction
Mostly that of the wind
He knows what it should be…
Will he be surprised?
Not uncommon to find…
But with skill from years
Of practice…another
Beautiful flight…don’t forget…
Landings always equal take offs…
Make it safe…and soft

A ROOM WITH A VIEW

Finally together…
They’d long felt
This had to be…
Looking out on
A beautiful city
Of antiquity…
Love was finally
Not to be denied
Of course they asked…
Could they have a
Room with a view?

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

I heard it again…
They say the sky’s the limit
I really want to believe that…
So tell me again that I’m
The one you waited for…
Coming from you,
I’ll believe it’s true…
And I’ll also
Do all I can to
Take us to the limit

WHERE DID IT GO WRONG?

It took awhile
Before I realized
My life was out
Of control…
The life I was living
Had lost its zest…
What do you do
When you find
You’ve been
Going along
To get along?
And how do you
Fix such a thing?
Simple answer…
Not so simple
To make it work…
I took responsibility
For my part in
Losing control…
I was not without
A lot of help in
Getting out of sync…
But getting back?
That’s all on me…
A work in progress

Prompt: UNCONTROLLABLE

GETTING MY HEAD STRAIGHT

Getting my head straight
A larger task I’ve never had
Years of going along
To get along…uncertainty
My constant companion
Unwanted…but what to do?

I guess I’m not the Alpha type
Easygoing, if I can be…
So someone with other plans
Not worried about mine
Could too easily prevail
The cost…incalculable…
And it didn’t bring a happy state
So now in reconstruction…fixing me
